ANAHEIM — Angel Stadium is getting a few notable upgrades this offseason.
Daktronics, a South Dakota-based electronic scoreboard manufacturer, announced Monday that it will be continuing its partnership with the Angels by installing 14 LED displays amounting to more than 23,000 square feet at Angel Stadium ahead of the 2018 season.
The focal point of the project will be a 9,500-square-foot video display in right field, which will be the third largest scoreboard in Major League Baseball, behind the Indians and Mariners. It will feature 7.7 million LEDS and will be equal to the size of 890 60-inch televisions. The new video display in left field will total 5,488 feet.
The project includes eight ribbon displays adding up to 1,168 feet in length, the largest of which will cover the entire fascia length along the first- and third-base lines. A new “Big A Marquee” digital billboard will also be installed along the 57 Freeway to welcome fans to the ballpark and promote upcoming events.
“While putting a perennial contender on the field remains a top priority, the fan experience is very important to Angels Baseball,” Angels president John Carpino said in a statement. “We believe this investment into Angel Stadium will dramatically enhance the overall experience for our loyal and dedicated fan base and look forward to unveiling this technology at the start of the 2018 season.”
Angel Stadium, which opened in 1966, is the fourth oldest stadium, behind only Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium. Last spring, owner Arte Moreno said the Angels would continue to play in Anaheim until at least 2029.
